Meet Roger Dowdy

Roger Dowdy is an Ordained Deacon (DFC) in the United Methodist Church and the founder and director of CROSS-PATHS Ministries- established in 1997 as a ministry service to churches, annual conferences, judicatories for consulting, leadership training, and forming disciple for Jesus Christ.

Through CROSS-PATHS Ministries, Roger is in frequent demand for seminars and coaching workshops in music and worship, as well as consulting for church visioning and discipleship. He is a respected leader in the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, having been elected as a delegate to three General Conferences.

He is a skilled and effective pastoral musician, retreat leader, and teacher of the faith and spiritual formation through hymnody, liturgy, and Bible study.

Roger is the author/editor of WORSHIP MUSIC TODAY: Caught in the Whirlwind of Change, published in the September 17, 2001 issue of the Virginia United Methodist Advocate and STANDING AT THE DOOR –Millennial Worship Resources (1999, United Methodist General Board of Discipleship and the 2000 revised web edition).

He is a leader for MAKING DISCIPLES IN THE 21st CENTURY, an initiative and texts from United Methodist Board of Discipleship, seeking to reach, initiate, and form new Christians in the faith. In addition, he has served as Training Leader and reader/consultant for both the UNITED METHODIST HYMNAL (1988) and the 2001 supplement to The United Methodist Hymnal, THE FAITH WE SING. CROSS-PATHS periodically offers SCHOOLS OF GLOBAL SONG to aid leaders of music and worship in developing their skill in leading global music and worship; as well as THE ACADEMY OF PASTORAL MUSICIANS – providing opportunities to nurture the soul and spirituality of those who lead music and worship.

Roger has held adjunct and visiting instructor positions in Worship and Church Music at Emory University, Candler School of Theology, Atlanta, Georgia; Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, DC; and Lynchburg College, Lynchburg, Virginia. From 1998-2005, he served as adjunct faculty in worship & music to the United Methodist Southeast Jurisdiction’s Lay Ministry Center, Lake Junaluska, North Carolina.
